A General Conference Book Review: Growing Up With Conference by Sweetly Made Just For You | Prickly Pear Design Co. | LDS Printables

We’ve already enjoyed the General Women’s Meeting, but now it’s time to get ready for the general sessions of General Conference? Are you ready? Maybe you’re like me and you’ve got “look at Pinterest for General Conference ideas” on your to do list. Well, if that’s the case, you’re in luck. I had the opportunity to review the book Growing Up with Conference by the Sweetly Made Just for You team and I found so many great ideas that I wish I had started sooner. That said, General Conference will come, go and be here again before we know it – so I’ll have a head start on next time.

The book includes a whole section about planning and organizing before Conference – something I’ll definitely do better next time after reading their ideas. But the one project that really stuck out to me was having a countdown until one of our favorite weekends of the year. As a busy mom, having some guidelines for prep is appreciated because it takes out the guesswork for me. The countdown activities are awesome and provide us a chance to learn a little bit about the prophets and apostles we’ll be hearing from. As I read through this chapter, I think we’ll do a quick version this week of one of the countdowns. It’s never too late or too early to start learning about the men and women of God that will be speaking to us.

They have a host of yummy recipes to try out during General Conference weekend, along with quiet activities, and Easter and Fall based activities to use for the coordinating General Conference season. (There are even ideas for a Visiting Teaching General Conference kit – perfect for a quick drop off for the sisters you visit!) They also include a section on what to do after General Conference! There’s always so much talk about preparing (and it really is important) but the follow up is just as important and often, less talked about. Their Live It Challenge is perfect for families with a variety of ages. We’ll be using that one for sure, even though our kiddos are still fairly little. And The Favorite Talk FHE lesson is a great way to get teens, parents, and even Primary-aged children a chance to practice giving a lesson and sharing their thoughts and testimonies on what stuck out to them during the General Conference sessions.

What things do you have planned for General Conference? Any family traditions? Are you looking to start a few or get some good ideas for this upcoming General Conference weekend? I’d love to hear your ideas in the comments below.

Right now, Growing Up With Conference  is available as an e-book (and it includes a lot of links to free printables!). You can purchase your copy directly from Sweetly Made  Just for You for only $3.99 or on Amazon or Books and Things.
