So you've watched some tutorials, or taken a class

So you've watched some tutorials, or taken a class and you've got some skills - but how do you put things all together? Where do you start when it comes to creating a custom design piece that you can print out, hang up and show off?
I've been there too. You learn a cool thing from an online tutorial, but that's where your skills start and stop. My online university design students have the same type of complaints - "I've got the tools and some know-how, but I'm stumped on how to pull it all together and create what I have in mind". One of the things that I wanted to be sure I included in the Digital Printables - Simplified course was a few video tutorials to help you create something start-to-finish. What started as 1 or 2 projects ended up being 6 full projects in a variety of different styles and I may even mention a few ideas of how you can put them to use!

I love the Adobe Creative Suite - always have, always will. It's what I use for my clients and it makes sense for me - I'm a graphic designer after all.
But what if you're an entrepreneur and just need to get some things done? Or maybe you're a someone that wants to learn how to design but doesn't have the budget for expensive software just so you can get started or "try it out"? If you fall into this second category (and I'll be honest, I use it quite a bit too) Canva may be a great option. It's a online graphic design software that offers all the basics and some more advanced features for a small monthly price.

I started teaching design online a few years ago and have loved it. I set a goal that I’d create my own online design class...it seemed a little daunting, but goals should are supposed to be like that right? Well, a lot of life has happened since then, but I’m happy to say I can check “create a beginning design course that doesn’t require $$$ programs” off my list. This course is for all the people who want to be able to create awesome stuff without paying a ton for a subscription or spending hundreds of hours searching online to find a cute handout or printable they can hang on their wall. I saw this quote on the wall at my daughter’s school a week or two ago and it’s been running through my head on repeat ever since. I’m not sure why we let the negative play so loudly but I’ve decided that I’m fighting for the positive...no matter what. I need it, my kids need it, and I believe that the world we live in can surely use every ounce of positive we can pour into it. So what positives are you hearing, speaking and seeing today?
